LEFTY GOLFER

We love Lefty's at Golf Ball Divers and have a great selection just for you.

The history of lefty golfers is marked by early pioneering figures and later breakthroughs, with New Zealand's Bob Charles breaking ground by becoming the first left-hander to win a major championship in 1963. Following his lead, other left-handed golfers, like Phil Mickelson, Mike Weir, and Bubba Watson, have achieved significant success, though left-handed golfers remain a minority in professional golf.

Early history and breakthroughs

Pioneering spirit: Early on, left-handed golfers faced significant challenges, with a small number of them playing regularly on professional tours.

Bob Charles: Bob Charles was a trailblazer, winning the 1963 Houston Classic to become the first left-handed golfer to win on the PGA Tour, and later that same year, he won the British Open to become the first lefty to win a major championship.

Modern era and major accomplishments

Phil Mickelson: Known as "Lefty," Mickelson is the most successful left-handed golfer on the PGA Tour, with 45 wins, including six major championships.

Mike Weir: Weir made history by becoming the first left-handed golfer to win the Masters in 2003.

Bubba Watson: Watson has won multiple major championships, including two Masters titles, making him one of the most successful left-handed golfers in the modern era.

Increased visibility: Over time, more left-handed golfers have achieved success, but they still represent a small percentage of professional players.
