SLAZENGER

Slazenger's golf ball history began in 1891, shortly after the company was founded in 1881, and saw the brand rise to prominence in the mid-20th century through performance and association with top players. The brand was a major player in the UK and Commonwealth, and its balls were used by champions like Harold Hilton, who won the British Open twice in the 1890s using their equipment. Despite a decline in market share in the late 20th century, the brand's legacy in golf is a significant part of sports history.

Early days: Slazenger was founded in 1881 by brothers Ralph and Albert Slazenger. They began making golf clubs in 1890 and introduced their first golf ball, the "Guttie," in 1891.

Rise to fame: The brand became a dominant force in golf, particularly in the mid-20th century, with its balls becoming a symbol of performance and quality.

Association with champions: Harold Hilton won the Open Championship twice in the 1890s using Slazenger balls. Later, Slazenger was trusted by numerous professional golfers.

Connection to Wimbledon: Slazenger is famously known as the official ball supplier for The Championships, Wimbledon, since 1902, which boosted its overall brand prestige.

Market shifts: While Slazenger was once a top choice, the late 20th century saw changes in the market, and the brand's overall golf dominance shifted.

Company changes: The company went through several ownership changes. It was sold in a management buyout in 1996 and eventually the rights to the Slazenger golf brand in North America were sold in 2004.

We offer different models of used SLAZENGER golf balls in three different grades – mint-condition golf balls (AAAAA/5A), near-mint condition (AAAA/4A) and value-condition (AAA/3A). Golf ball performance tests show no appreciable difference in game performance between new and mint-quality SLAZENGER golf balls. Read more.
