TITLEIST PRO V1

The Titleist Pro V1 was launched in October 2000 after years of development combining the performance of wound and solid-core balls. Initially just a temporary lab name, the "Pro V1" stuck after its immediate success on the PGA Tour, where 47 players immediately put it in play at the Invensys Classic. The ball quickly became the number one selling golf ball, a position it has held for over 25 years due to continuous innovation.

Key milestones and history

Pre-2000: Titleist engineers worked for years to combine the performance of high-end wound balls and distance-focused solid-core balls, creating many prototypes.

Summer 2000: Over 100 PGA Tour players were given prototypes to test, with feedback confirming they had created something revolutionary.

October 11, 2000: The Pro V1 was officially introduced on the PGA Tour at the Invensys Classic in Las Vegas.
Initial adoption: A total of 47 players, including winner Billy Andrade, immediately switched to the new ball, representing the largest single-event equipment shift in golf history.

Public release: Due to overwhelming demand and the ball's immediate success, the public release was moved forward from March 2001 to December 2000.

The name: The name "Pro V1" was a temporary designation for a prototype ball submitted to the USGA for testing. "Pro" stood for "Professional," "V" for "Veneer" (the material layer), and "1" because it was the first prototype in that series. The name stuck because of its immediate success.

Continued innovation: Since its debut, Titleist has continued to innovate with the Pro V1, leading to its sustained position as the number one ball in golf for over 25 years.
